Greetings!
I am honored and humbled to be elected as the new president of the Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators. I am thrilled to serve alongside so many passionate educators, and I am excited to embark on this journey with all of you as we REFRESH, REINVIGORATE, AND RENEW to advance the mission of this incredible organization. We could not accomplish all that we do without your continued dedication and support, and I want to thank each of you for your sustained commitment and your partnership as we move forward.
As many of you know, our previous president, Dr. Roberta Hill, set up our organization for success in many ways. We successfully navigated a global pandemic, we thoughtfully pivoted to continue engaging with each other, and we continued to award scholarships to deserving youth.
Now, as we look ahead to the future, I invite each of you to think about how you will help us refresh, renew and reinvigorate so that all children, especially our Black children, benefit from excellence in education.
First, let’s consider how we refresh. You know that GNABSE is and has always been an outstanding organization. But, how many of your family members know that? How many of your colleagues are aware? GNABSE is one of the best kept secrets in middle Tennessee, and I hope you’ll join me in efforts to change that. We want to refresh our community’s awareness of this organization in ways that encourage them to partner and support us in our endeavors to promote excellence in the education of all children.
Second, let’s consider how we reinvigorate our commitment to the mission. Our organization has served our local communities with joy and stood in the gap for countless students, parents, and members to support, advance, and enhance the effective education of our youth. Through
our annual golf tournament, gala, and educational forum, we are able to support our scholarship fund, back to school events, and book drives. I want to continue these commitments while exploring opportunities to provide these services in an enhanced way and new possibilities for
how we can be of service in our community.
Lastly, when we think about new possibilities, I hope you’ll join me in considering how we renew our efforts. I am interested in hearing your ideas for attracting new members, partnerships, sponsorships, and opportunities for advancement. We look forward to working with renewed
interest, refreshing ideas, and the chance to reinvigorate as we move forward.
As president, I commit to you that we are open to new ideas, will keep an open mind, and will continue to water the seeds that have been planted and will nurture the fruits that have been produced. Let’s join hands to refresh, renew, and reinvigorate as we move forward, together.
Regards,
Olivia Flakes
